Yellow Phosphorus
Molecular Formula: P4
Molecular Weight: 123.90
CAS No.: 7723-14-0
Properties
Yellow phosphorus is a waxy solid; when pure it is colorless and transparent. Sometimes it appears yellow because it contains traces of red phosphorus. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in carbon disulfide. As the most reactive allotrope of phosphorus, yellow phosphorus takes fire spontaneously in air, burning to the pentoxide. It should be kept under water, as it is dangerously reactive in air, and it should be handled with forceps, as contact with the skin may cause severe burns.
Purity: >99.95%
Arsenic(As): 0.0120% - 0.0170%
Application
Yellow phosphorus is mainly used in the production of phosphoric acid. It is also widely used in agriculture, lighting industry, food and military applications.
